Photographs of the Yasutome family, a Japanese-American family from Portland, Or., 1945-1948. Most of the photographs were taken by Jiro (Jerry) Yasutome, and a significant portion were taken while the Yasutomes were interned at the Tule Lake Relocation Center in California from 1945-1946 during World War II. These images include portraits of Jerry's family, including his wife, Toshiko (Irene) Marioka Yasutome, his son, Mamoru (James) Yasutome, and his parents, Sadao Kurata Yasutome and Ju Jiro Yasutome; group portraits of electrical workers and a Buddhist Sunday School; and photos of a fire at the center. The collection also contains photographs of the Northwest School of Photography, taken and collected while Jerry Yasutome was a student there after the war, circa 1946-1948, and include many images taken by Jerry and other students of the aftermath of the Vanport Flood of May 1948, as well as photographs of photography classes. Includes one panoramic photograph.
